Our Programs
Exploring & Development

Our Approach
The Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education emphasizes the importance of child-led learning, respect for the child as an individual, and the use of creativity and exploration to foster cognitive and emotional development. Here at Merrydale our curriculum will be flexible and responsive to the interests and needs of the children, with a focus on promoting their natural curiosity and love of learning. Teachers will act as guides and facilitators, rather than authoritarian figures, and will work collaboratively with families and the wider community to support each child’s growth and development
Art and Creativity
Children will be encouraged to express themselves creatively through various art forms such as painting, drawing, and sculpture. Materials such as clay, paper, and natural items from the environment will be used to promote exploration and experimentation.
Music and Movement
Children will explore different types of music and movement through singing, dancing, and playing instruments. They will be encouraged to express themselves through movement and to develop their gross and fine motor skills.
Science and Nature
Children will be given opportunities to explore the natural world through outdoor play, gardening, and other hands-on activities. They will be encouraged to ask questions, make observations and predictions, and engage in scientific inquiry.
Language and Literacy
Children will be exposed to a variety of books, stories, and poems that reflect their interests and experiences. They will be encouraged to express themselves through language and to develop their speaking, listening, and writing skills.
Math Adventures
Children explore mathematical concepts through hands-on activities, puzzles, and games, fostering problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
Outdoor Exploration
We believe in the importance of outdoor play for children's physical and mental development. Our outdoor activities promote exploration, teamwork, and appreciation for nature.
Social and Emotional Development
Children will be supported in developing positive relationships with their peers and caregivers. They will be encouraged to use their emotions to guide their learning and problem-solving, and to develop empathy and compassion for others.
Community Engagement
Children will be given opportunities to engage with their local community through field trips, guest speakers, and volunteer projects. They will learn about different cultures and perspectives, and develop an appreciation for diversity.
